Honesty. Integrity. Commitment.
Stephen Crawford is known as a hard working businessman who cares passionately about Canada and its future. He is committed to personal responsibility, freedom and making government more efficient.
He was born and raised in a middle class family in Mississauga. His work ethic developed early, having three paper routes by the age of 12. His first job was a clerk at the local grocery store at age 15. He continued to work at the store through high school to help pay for his university tuition.
After graduating from Lorne Park Secondary School, he studied political science at the University of Western Ontario in London.
Stephen then attended The University of Toronto for business and subsequently achieved the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
At the young age of 32, Stephen became Senior Vice President, National Sales, at Acuity Funds.
A leader in sustainable investing, Acuity was the first Canadian advisor to the United Nations on the integration of environmental, social and governance factors within investment management. It's flagship fund was The Clean Environmental Equity Fund, focused on investing in companies which fit the environmental concept of sustainable development.
The company's assets under management grew from $300 million to almost $10 billion, making it one of the fastest growing investment firms in Canada. The firm was acquired by a large public company in 2011. Stephen then became a senior executive with another independent Canadian mutual fund company. He successfully helped transition and build that company until it was acquired in 2016.
Stephen is a very proud Canadian and knows that our diversity is our biggest strength. He can relate to the immigrant experience. His grandparents immigrated to Canada from England during the Great Depression. His wife Najia is herself a first generation Canadian who immigrated from Morocco when she was 10 years old.
An important part of Stephen's life is to help make the world a better place. Stephen has been a vocal advocate and fundraiser for Plan Canada's "Because I am a Girl" campaign. The organization is focused on equal rights and education for girls. Locally, he has been a member of "100 Guys who Care", Oakville chapter, The Royal Canadian Military Institute and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce.
Stephen's interest in public service began early on. He was involved with the Progressive Conservative Party at a very young age as well as with numerous campaigns. His most recent involvement has been as a member of the federal Conservative Board in Oakville.
Family is the focal point of Stephen's life. He is married to Najia and is the father of 4 children- 2 sets of identical twin girls! As everything seems to come in two's, he is also the proud father of fraternal twin cats- Winston and Lulu.
